Net income for the quarter ended June 30, 2009 was $3,584,000, or $.68 per diluted share, compared to $5,489,000 or $1.03 per diluted share, for the comparable period in 2008. Net income in the second quarter of 2008 included a net gain of $495,000, or $.09 per diluted share, on the sale of Superior Modular Products Company, a wholly owned domestic subsidiary.
Net sales in the second quarter of 2009 were $59,568,000, a decrease of 21% from sales of $75,362,000 in the second quarter of 2008.
Net income for the six months ended June 30, 2009 decreased 25% to $6,306,000, or $1.19 per diluted share, compared to $8,439,000, or $1.57 per diluted share for the comparable period in 2008. Net sales decreased 13% to $118,262,000 for the first six months of 2009 compared to $135,227,000 in the first six months of 2008.
Currency exchange rates negatively impacted sales by $7,014,000 for the quarter and $15,690,000 for the first six months of 2009, while the negative impact on net income was $339,000 for the quarter and $848,000 for the first six months of 2009.
Rob Ruhlman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Although our results for the quarter were disappointing, they were not unexpected based upon the state of the world economy. Our comparisons are to a very strong second quarter in 2008 and the same will be the case for third quarter. We adjusted our cost structure last year while our operations were strong. Currently we are leveraging our costs over a lower sales volume. We expect that sales will improve when the economy improves and we get the anticipated boost from the stimulus package. We feel that we are correctly positioned for the future growth.”

| | | | | | | June 3, 2009 | | DPW and PLP Solar Announces New Multiple Pole Mount for PV Solar Electric Systems | | |
Cleveland, Ohio (June. 5, 2009) DPW Solar, a wholly owned subsidiary of Preformed Line Products Company, and PLP Solar announces a new Multi-Pole Ground Mount system for installing commercial and residential PV solar electric systems.
The Multi-Pole Mount (MPM) system is an easy-to-assemble pipe structure designed to mount on a single row of 3” or 4” SCH 40/80 galvanized steel pipes. The unique design offers unlimited horizontal expansion and supports up to four PV solar modules in a column formation with landscape orientation. The MPM incorporates heavy-duty stainless steel hardware, and high strength welded steel fittings and is engineered to specific site requirements.
Advantages of the MPM are plenty. Fewer ground penetrations are created than traditional ground mounts by utilizing a single row of pipes, thus requiring less excavation, materials and labor. The MPM also offers seasonal elevation adjustments and provides significant ground clearance creating a structure ideal for carport and shade applications. Under-flange module clamps and factory-located module specific holes combine to reduce the final installed cost and improve overall aesthetics.
At DPW and PLP Solar we know solar power systems, and we know what it takes to provide the right combination of innovative products and proven technologies. Our relentless drive to develop innovative product solutions is matched only by our dedication to providing reliable customer support. So no matter what your application demands, we have the right set of solutions to meet your needs. 2009.
Net income for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 was $2,722,000, or $.51 per diluted
share, compared to $2,950,000, or $.54 per diluted share, for the comparable period in
2008.
Net sales for the first quarter of 2009 were $58,694,000 compared to $59,865,000 in the
first quarter of 2008.
Currency translation had a negative impact on sales and net income for the quarter of
$8.7 million and $.5 million, respectively.
Rob Ruhlman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “The stronger dollar had a
negative affect on our consolidated sales and net income for the quarter when translating
foreign financial statements into U.S. dollars. During these difficult economic times I am
pleased to report a 13% increase in sales when reporting in native currency.
Additionally, our net income from continuing operations improved 10% in native

Extreme Home Makeover Home Edition Features Top-of-Pole Mounts by
PLP subsidiary, DPW Solar
On the February 8 episode of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, DPW Solar’s Top-of-Pole mounting system was used in the construction of the Girard family’s new home in Connecticut.
Along with Ty Pennington and crew, community volunteers pulled together to build the
Girard’s a 3,200-square-foot, energy-efficient home that resembled the look of an old
castle. Even though the architectural design reflected an ancient style, the overarching
goal was to construct a more modern, sustainable home to help save the family money.
Therefore, three of DPW’s Top-of-Pole mounts were installed to create an energysaving
solar system, holding a total of 36 solar modules.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition contacted Alteris™ Renewables, Inc., a renewable
energy systems integrator, to help them construct the solar system. Alteris immediately
recommended DPW Solar’s Top-of-Pole Mounts for the project because of the strength
and adjustability of the product.
The Top-of-Pole mounts hold the solar modules at an optimal orientation to maximize
the energy produced from the sun, which offsets the family’s electric bill and also
reduces harmful green house gases. This solar system is also connected to the utility
grid through a net metering system. Because of this direct connection, the electric
company compensates the Girard’s for energy that is generated but not used at the
residence.
With the help of DPW Solar, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was able to construct a
money-saving solar system while helping a family in need finally have a home.

This is a challenge we will continue to face during the remainder of this year and next as our customers deal with limited borrowing opportunities in the capital markets. The successful integration of our two acquisitions during 2007 and the divestiture of SMP in May of this year were instrumental in the improvement in our operating results to date.”

Cleveland, Ohio (Aug. 12, 2008) DPW Solar, a subsidiary of Preformed Line Products, supplied its photovoltaic mounting system, Power Tube CRSTM, for the largest commercial solar system in San Jose. The 650-kilowatt PV system supports over 3,200 solar modules and was installed by SolarCity.
Designed for fast, flat-roof installations, Power Tube CRSTM has a top clamping design with a minimum number of component parts and does not require roof penetrations. Because EPDM rubber backing is featured on all of its component parts that make contact with the roof surface, the PV mounting system offers superior protection for roof surfaces and is wind tunnel qualified.
“The Direct Power and Water PowerTube CRS product is very simple to install and robust,” said Chris Edgett, SolarCity commercial projects director. “The system goes down quickly the first time, even with installers who had never previously deployed the product. We were seeing total module install times faster than previous systems we’ve used while maintaining perfect alignment across the roof.”
To maximize available space while minimizing the overall installation time, DPW Solar teamed with Solar City’s professional design team to develop strategic layouts for the different roofs on the project. The Power Tube CRSTM covers more than 60,000 square feet of roof space.

| | | | | | | April 23, 2007 | | PLP Announces Improved Financial Results for the Quarter Ended March 31, 2007 | | |
Mayfield Village, Ohio – April 23, 2007 – Preformed Line Products Company (Nasdaq:PLPC) today reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2007.
- Net income increased 49% for the first quarter on a 7% increase in net sales
- Earnings per diluted share increased 60% for the first three months
Net income for the quarter ended March 31, 2007 increased 49% to $3,718,000, or $.69 per diluted share, compared to $2,499,000, or $.43 per diluted share, for the comparable period in 2006.
Sales for the quarter of $56,531,000 were 7% higher than sales of $52,635,000 in the first quarter of 2006.
Rob Ruhlman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We experienced improvements in our major domestic markets during the quarter. Sales in our domestic core markets of power and telecommunications improved 21% in the first quarter of 2007 compared to 2006. Investment in new projects to upgrade the power grid by the electric utility companies was the major driver of this increase. We also benefited from increasing investment by cable companies to defend their market share as well as the investment by communication companies in running fiber to the premise. Foreign sales were down less than 1% from the previous year; however, currency had a 4% favorable impact on sales. I am pleased with the increase in net income of nearly 50% and am optimistic about the rest of the year.”

| | | | | | | April 12, 2007 | | PLP Forms Solar Division with Acquisition of the Direct Power & Water Corp. | | |
Mayfield Village, Ohio – April 12, 2007 – Preformed Line Products (PLP) announced the formation of a new solar energy division with its acquisition of Direct Power and Water Corporation (DP&W), a leading designer, manufacturer and installer of solar power systems based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Established in 1993, DP&W employs approximately 55 people, and specializes in engineering, designing and installing turnkey photovoltaic systems for residential, commercial and industrial applications. DP&W will be the foundation of PLP’s newly formed Solar Division, PLP Solar, which will spearhead the Company’s wider initiatives in the renewable energy market.
“Solar power generation continues to gain economic acceptance due to improved technology, rising costs of traditional energy sources and growing demand for energy independence,” commented Rob Ruhlman, PLP’s Chairman and CEO. “We believe PLP can play a significant role in solar and other alternative energy markets as “wireless” power continues to grow.”
The acquisition of DP&W provides PLP with direct access to the fast growing renewable energy market and complements PLP’s existing operational expertise and market leading position in the power utility industry. “As power utility companies look to offset growing peak energy demands with alternative energy sources, PLP Solar will be well positioned to assist these customers by providing turnkey solutions,” said Dennis McKenna, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for PLP. “In addition, the acquisition of DP&W expands PLP’s core manufacturing capabilities in the area of metal fabrication, and its location enhances PLP’s operational footprint in the US.”
As a key component to the acquisition, DP&W founders Kevin Goodreau, President, and Jeffrey Randall, Vice President and Director of Engineering, will be remaining with DP&W to help lead the launch of PLP Solar.
“After 14 years of building DP&W from a two person business to a medium-sized company, it became apparent with the recent growth in the renewable energy industry that we needed to expand our reach into new markets, develop new products and refine our manufacturing capabilities,” said Kevin Goodreau. “The management and staff fully support this undertaking. We look forward to growing the solar power business and leading PLP’s expansion into the renewable energy market.”
“After our initial discussions, we knew that PLP and DP&W were the right fit, and with the synergies between wired power and wireless power it became obvious to both parties that this was a great match,” added Jeffrey Randall. “We wanted a company that was interested in our business, our employees, and had the ability to quickly expand our capabilities to become a world leader in the renewable energy industry.”

| | | | | | | February 19, 2007 | | PLP Announces Improved Financial Results for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2006 | | |
Mayfield Village, Ohio –
February 19, 2007 – Preformed Line Products Company (Nasdaq: PLPC) today reported financial results for the fourth quarter and the full year ended December 31, 2006.
Net income for the quarter ended December 31, 2006 increased to $2,032,000, or $.38 per diluted share, compared to $883,000, or $.15 per diluted share, for the comparable period in 2005. Net sales in the fourth quarter 2006 were $51,765,000, an 11% increase from last year’s $46,726,000
Net income for the full year ended December 31, 2006 increased to $12,060,000, or $2.13 per diluted share, compared to the prior year’s $11,986,000, or $2.07 per diluted share. Net sales increased 5% to $216,937,000 for the full year 2006 compared to $205,804,000 in 2005.
Rob Ruhlman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Our international operations had a record year for both sales and income. International sales of $105 million were 17% higher than the previous year. Currency had a $2.8 million favorable impact on sales. Our 2006 domestic sales were 3% lower than 2005 as a result of a weak telecommunications market. However, domestic sales recovered in the fourth quarter and were 9% stronger than the fourth quarter of 2005 in our core energy and telecommunication markets. This trend is continuing into 2007 as we anticipated. I am particularly pleased with our fourth quarter net income more than doubling that of 2005. One of our biggest challenges for 2007 will be improving operating efficiencies in our domestic operations to make up for continuing increases in raw material costs.”
On Thursday, February 15, 2007 the Board of Directors authorized the Company to repurchase up to 200,000 common shares, $2 par value per share, or approximately 3.7% of the Company’s outstanding common shares. Under the repurchase program, which does not have a stated expiration date, the Company has authority to repurchase common shares through the open market, block purchases, or in negotiated private transactions on an ongoing basis. The repurchases will be subject to availability of common shares, general market conditions, the trading price of the common shares, alternative uses for capital, and the Company’s financial condition and performance.
The Board of Directors also declared a regular quarterly dividend in the amount of $.20 per share on the Company’s common shares, payable April 20, 2007 to shareholders of record at the close of business on April 2, 2007.
